Almost no one is immune to love – no matter how much we claim otherwise. Cupid's arrow can strike us at any moment, and that is what, ultimately, makes our lives interesting. Sometimes the God of love chooses the right moment to "shoot" us, and sometimes he gets it wrong. And what if it happens at work? What if we "fall in love" with a colleague? God forbid, with our boss?
The reactions of other colleagues to office romances can sometimes be our biggest concern – and for good reason. In 2018, Vault published a study that showed that 43% of people are generally against romantic relationships in the workplace, while 4% are extremely opposed to them. Such relationships can lead to negative comments, gossip and judgments, which can sometimes take on gigantic proportions. The pressure that two people in a romantic relationship can be under because of this can be truly stressful. The result is often the transfer of one of the employees to another department, or even the dismissal – which can be especially disastrous for the company if it was a great professional.
The same study confirmed that most people admit that workplace affairs are common. As many as 48% of them personally know someone who cheats on their stable partner with a coworker. Of course, now a whole new area opens up for us – marital infidelity, which we will not delve into for the purposes of this blog. However, it would be italy whatsapp data interesting to conduct a similar study in our region.
What do you think? Are romantic relationships in the workplace acceptable or not? I'll present three theses for you to consider:
The first is that at the end of the day, we are all human beings, with feelings and a need to connect with other people. It is something that is universal to all of us. Sometimes this need is realized in the form of friendship or long-term business collaboration, and sometimes - in the form of workplace romance.
The second thesis can be “based” on the culture of overtime work. Namely, due to the large amount of work and long hours spent in the office, some individuals do not even have time to meet potential romantic, sexual or marital partners outside of their workplace. And then, for some, a romantic relationship with a work colleague is certainly a more acceptable option than installing Tinder – which should be respected.
The third, on the other hand, supports all those married couples who have successfully run their companies for years or just work at the same workplace. With their professionalism, they do not allow details from their private lives to interfere with business situations, which is certainly highly commendable.
