In another context, protests in high Andean areas were also analyzed, which closed the way to mining corridors; in this sense, we observed that in digital news media they made known about the transportation alternatives that a mine located in Ancash would implement, following the example of others that invested more than 300 million dollars in building a mineral pipeline, in order to avoid economic losses due to external factors such as mudslides and protests.
The issue that also stood out was the environmental impact in the first two months of the year. In this case, there were conversations about the environmental impact of mining activity affecting river water, livestock and even families living in the mining areas, based on which they demanded that the authorities or organizations supervise the social licenses of the mining companies.
On the other hand, in the bar graph we can see that out of the 14 mining mexico phone numbers example studied, 8 of them achieved more than 50% positive conversation, while 3 of them achieved more than 60% negative mentions.
Employment opportunities in Facebook accounts.
Construction of public works such as water reservoirs.
Mining activities that help community development such as: cattle vaccination, veterinary care, seeds for grass cultivation.
Industry overview between January and June, before and during the state of emergency.
To begin with, the period before the State of Emergency was between January 1st and March 15th; likewise, the volume of mentions was more than 17 thousand conversations as we can see, while during the State of Emergency (between March 16th and June 30th), they increased to 48 thousand mentions, registering a growth of 178% in total conversations.
In this line chart, which shows us the evolution of the volume of daily mentions in the selected period, we have main milestones that are the highest in the timeline and some secondary milestones:
Regarding the main milestones, the following occurred:
On April 13 and 14, there were more than 2,500 mentions, due to conversations about the first case of COVID-19 in a mining company located in Arequipa, in addition to comments about the application of the suspension of work in the mining sector due to infections in mines.
Following the timeline, we observed comments on Facebook, Twitter and the media on April 27 and 28, regarding the contagion of 210 workers at a mine located in Ancash.
Finally, on June 8 and 9, there was talk about the restart of activities decreed by the government for certain sectors, one of them, MINING.
Moving on to the percentage change in sentiment, the breakdown was made into 3 two-month periods, as we can see in the graphs below.
Between the first and second two-month periods, the increase that stood out was the negative percentage, increasing 17 percentage points between these two periods, the main issue being the constant infections of workers in camps of some mining companies. We also saw some complaints about deficiencies in safety protocols, among others.
Between the second and third quarters, positive sentiment rose 10 percentage points, due to conversations about proposals from users on Twitter and also from senior government or mining executives to promote or resume projects that would help improve the economic crisis.
Moving on to the details of conversations by channel, we can see the difference between the pre-pandemic period.
Facebook was the platform with the highest increase, registering a 240% increase; followed by Twitter with a 183% increase, having a large share in industry conversations and digital news media with 20% of conversations between before and during the state of emergency. On the other hand, Facebook gained more than 2,900 users and Twitter with more than 2,300 followers.
*It should be noted that not all mining companies have a FAN PAGE, only 9 of the 14 we studied; also with Twitter.
In Quantico we have the GeoPanel section, where we can identify in which area the most comments were registered, and between the months of January and June 2020, the districts that had the most participation were: San Isidro with 237 mentions, Miraflores, Barranco and Surco with 147 conversations and finally San Borja which obtained 144 Tweets.
