What information does Keyword Research provide us?
To get organic traffic through our listings, we need to know how users search for our products, with what terms, what the search frequency is and what seasonality these searches have.
All this information allows us to estimate the demand for our products, as well as different business opportunities . That is, searches that our users make about a specific type of product that we do not have in our catalog.
That said, how do we carry out Keyword Research for Amazon? In this post we show you how.
Keyword Research for Amazon step by step
We are going to go step by step to define the most complete Keyword Research possible for our product listings.
Find the base Keywords of your products
The first step is to define the base keywords for your products, 5-6 words to describe each of our products.
Let's take an example: for a computer monitor, we would have “computer monitor”, “24-inch monitor”, “5k monitor”…
We continue adding synonyms or other search terms that the user can use to find our product, following the same example of the monitor, they could be “computer screen”, “desktop screen”, “desktop”…
All these keywords will be the basis of our Keyword Research.
Expand the list of keywords
Once we have defined the basic keywords for our listings, it is time to expand the list with all the possible searches that the user can perform, whether it be product type + brand, product + feature 1, product + feature 2, product + feature 1 + feature 2…
We show you different ways and different tools to optimize the process:
Amazon Search Suggestions
The Amazon platform itself is an effective way to expand our list of keywords, as it shows us the different searches carried out by users directly on its platform.
We will repeat the process by entering our base keywords and gradually adding new ones that we find to cover all possible searches.
Google Keyword Planner
Although most consumers go directly to the North American platform to make their purchases, there is still a large number of users who continue to make their purchases through Google.
Unlike Amazon, Google provides us with exact data on the volume of each keyword with its respective trend. This allows us to know the seasonality of a user's searches throughout the year.
It should be noted that much of the content of an Amazon product listing is las vegas email marketing address also indexed and positioned on Google .

It allows us to segment the Amazon market and provides us with information on search volumes for the keyword, the total number of related keywords, products best positioned for the keyword and the frequency with which the keyword appears with another combination.
Apart from this information, we will find the section of keywords related to our search to complete our keyword research:
Metrics that the tool provides us:
Magnet IQ score : gives us an estimated ratio between the keyword's search volume compared to the level of competition. A higher score indicates that there is a high search volume compared to the number of competitors.
Search Volume: Number of monthly searches on the keyword that the tool tracks.
Sponsored ASINs: Number of ASINs that have active sponsored product campaigns.
Headline ASINs: Number of ASINs that appear in headline ads.
Competing products : Number of results that appear to users when they search for the keyword.
CPR : Number of sales required by the tool to get our product to the first page within 8 days.

There are many additional tools, both paid and free, for conducting keyword research on Amazon. The question is to try them out and find the one that best suits our needs.
Complete Keyword Research
Once we have our list of keywords closed, we complete the document with the Amazon search volume and the Google search volume with the trend and seasonality.
All keywords would be added to the planner and the keyword tool for Amazon and the data would be cross-referenced with a VLOOKUP.
We will get a document like the following:
Categorize your Keywords by Product
Once we complete our Keyword Research document, we will be tasked with categorizing all of these keywords.
In the case of monitors, we will have a categorization by monitor characteristics, according to inches, according to connection type, according to resolution…
Finally, we need to assign keywords per product, see which keywords to work on per product listing. Additional Excel tabs would be created for each product with the keywords to include in their listings.
Once this step is completed, we will have our Keyword Research.
