What is faceted navigation?

Post by tongfkymm44 »

Why should you use it?
Improve user experience (UX): If your users find what they are looking for quickly, they are more likely to buy. Nobody wants to waste time.
Optimize for SEO: Google usually loves organized sites, but be careful not to duplicate content (I explain this below).
Increase conversions: In the end, more precision = more sales.
How to implement it? Examples in WordPress and PrestaShop
Now comes the good part. I'll explain how you could set this up on the two most used platforms for ecommerce and content.

Implementation in WordPress (with WooCommerce)
If you're using WooCommerce, implementing faceted navigation is super dj email database list easy with plugins. Here are the basic steps:

Install a filter plugin:
The most typical one is WooCommerce Product Filter.
Another very top one is FacetWP (my favorite, although it is paid).
Configure your facets:
Go to the plugin settings and choose the attributes you want to filter. For example, size, color, price, etc. You define these attributes on WooCommerce products.
Add the facets to your store:
Most of these plugins work with shortcodes or widgets, so you just have to drag the filter to the sidebar or wherever you want to display it.
That's it! In just a few minutes, you'll have your faceted navigation up and running and your users happy.

Implementation in PrestaShop
In PrestaShop it is even easier because it already comes with the faceted search feature built in (they call it “Layered Navigation Block”). Here are the steps:

Activate the “Faceted Navigation” module:
Go to Modules > Modules and Services and look for the module called “Faceted Search” or “Layered Navigation”. Activate it if it is not active.
Configure your facets:
In the module, select the attributes you want users to be able to filter by. This includes categories, price ranges, brands, etc.
Associate filters with categories:
You can decide which categories the facets will be displayed in. For example, if you have a “Clothing” category, it would make sense to enable filters such as size and brand there.
Test and adjust:
Please test to make sure your filters are working properly. There is nothing more annoying than filtering something and no results appear!
A quick tip for SEO
If you don't set up your facet URLs properly, you can end up with a duplicate content mess that Google won't like at all. For example:

tutienda.com/categoria/?color=black

tutienda.com/categoria/?talla=42

To avoid this, use noindex tags in your facet combinations or set a canonical to the category's main page.

Conclusion
Faceted navigation is a must if you want your website to be user-friendly and more efficient. With tools like WooCommerce and PrestaShop, setting it up isn't that complicated, and the benefits for your users and your business are huge.
