Bing and ChatGPT are "Siamese twins": Microsoft's search engine integrates into OpenAI's chatbot

ChatGPT was already integrated into Bing a few months ago in a “supercharged” version of the famous search engine . And now it is Bing that will make its way into ChatGPT. Through the partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI, both tools seem destined to become absolutely inseparable and feed off each other as if they were “Siamese twins”.

Bing integration in ChatGPT became effective yesterday Tuesday in the paid version of the OpenAI chatbot. And the option will soon be activated for free via a plugin, as Microsoft has reported on its blog .

“Our fantastic partnership with OpenAI is critical to our progress with the new Bing,” said Yusuf Mehdi, head of consumer marketing at Microsoft . “ChatGPT will now have a first-class search engine built in to provide more timely and up-to-date answers with web-based access ,” he added.

The integration of Bing into ChatGPT means that the chatbot's answers will now be able to be based on online searches and recent data. Originally, ChatGPT's answers were restricted to information compiled up to September 2021.

Similar to the experience already offered to users by the integration of ChatGPT in Bing, this new functionality will also include appointments so that users can gather more information.

Microsoft has also announced that Bing will be able to use the same plugins as ChatGPT in the future . The software giant will adopt the same open plugin that OpenAI uses for ChatGPT, which will make interoperability between the chatbot of the company led by Sam Altman and the different AI assistants from Microsoft possible: Bing Chat, Dynamics 365 Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Windows Copilot and Azure OpenAI Service, among others.

In this way, developers will be able to create "experiences that allow people to interact with their bahamas number screening applications using the most natural user interface: human language."

Microsoft has already confirmed universal plugins for OpenTable, Wolfram Alpha, Expedia, Instacart, Kayak, Klarna, Redfin, TripAdvisor and Zillow. And dozens of other companies are working on such plugins as well.


If the user installs, for example, the Expedia plugin , he will have a practical virtual travel assistant at his side who will recommend places to visit and also tell him anecdotes about the chosen destination.

The OpenTable plugin, on the other hand, will provide the user with information about restaurants or related topics.

All of these new features will be accessible over the next few weeks from the Bing chat or the Edge browser sidebar on both desktop and mobile devices.
